Next Generation Davos - Optimism meets confusion

I don’t remember a time when life was as good as this.  I have been hugely fortunate to be able to come out to Davos.  I was here announcing the launch of One Young World (http://www.OneYoungWorld.com) with Kofi Annan’s Climate Justice movement.  I have managed to meet more influential people in one week than words can describe.  Davos is simple a power house of global leaders in their various forms.

So, what have been the take away points?  On the street people are saying this is the most somber WEF ever.   I have to say that my experience has been anything but somber.  There seems to be complete confusion about the state of the economy.  Despite the intelligence, experience and talent of these world leaders there is a distinct lack of good ideas for solutions coming through in my mind.  I am not going to be so brash to say that I have any better ideas but this recession seems to have taken most by complete surprise.

There have been signs of optimism around.  The global shake up has created a new focus, perhaps a new economy.  There is a great deal of reflection happening.  On Thursday One Young World was one such sign of optimism.  Everyone I speak to have been rallying around the idea and offering help where they can.  The concept is simple: to gather together 1500 leaders of tomorrow from 192 countries.  These young leaders, born between 1984-1986 will attend a three 3 day leaders forum in London between February 8th - 10th 2010 in London.  Our selection process where all 192 countries will be given 2 delegate spots and the remaining 1100 places will be taken according to the worlds population.  China will have 259 delegates, India 223, US 61 and little us in the UK will have 13!  My company, www.BraveNewTalent.com, is using leveraging on the worlds major social media channels to lead the hunt for these leaders of tomorrow.
