Appealing to business’s morality is not the best way of getting them to adopt environmental policies, Zac Goldsmith, editor of the Ecologist, tells TimesOnline in this video conversation.

This is why, he reckons, Fair Trade products don’t shift off the shelves as quickly as organic ones. Nevertheless, buyers want to be “part of the solution,” he says, and the smart businesses “recognise that we’re going to have to reduce the amount of resources that we use or waste, … that oil is becoming an increasingly scarce resource, and they’re going to have to start designing some of these inefficiencies out of the way they do business.”
