Which are the hottest tech cities in the world? Silicon.com has polled the world’s most respected CIOs, entrepreneurs, academics and tech writers to put together its Global Tech Hotspots report.

Silicon Valley may still be number one, but it’s Asian cities that dominate the top 20. And while China may be a while away from stealing the top spot, global tech companies such as Lenovo and Huawei are making worldwide waves.

The top five

  • Bangalore
    Famous name Wipro’s Azim Premji.
    Local salaries Between $5,600 and $7,500 a year for an entry-level software engineer.
  • Tokyo
    Famous names
    Softbank’s Masayoshi Son, Nintendo designer and Wii mastermind Shigeru Miyamoto.
    Local salaries Software engineer: between $49,000 and $69,600.
